Peter J. Weishaar will be a featured panelist at the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York’s 73rd Annual Meeting and Education Conference, held April 28th through April 30th in Albany, New York. The Association is a not-for-profit corporation working to improve the fiscal responsibility, efficiency and effectiveness of fire district management through education, training and advocacy for commissioners and other fire district officials in the 57 counties outside of New York City.
Peter, with extensive experience representing many fire districts, will address legal issues commonly faced by fire districts on “The Attorney’s Panel – Helping You Solve Problems in Your Fire District” on April 30th. Topics for discussion include:
- Whether a fire district can pre-pay for fire apparatus
- Issues related to Length of Service Award Programs, including point systems and removal of the public employee penalty provision
- Open Meetings Law issues, including notice requirements and the availability of draft resolutions and other pertinent documents
