As we previously reported, New York State has enacted new legislation that requires New York employers to adopt a sexual harassment policy and provide annual sexual harassment training.
Earlier this week the New York State Department of Labor issued final materials and guidance on the new sexual harassment prevention law.
New York employers have until October 9, 2018 to adopt a sexual harassment policy that meets or exceeds the minimum standards set by the new legislation. The guidance issued this week by the New York State Department of Labor includes a model sexual harassment policy.
The DOL guidance issued this week provided some relief to New York employers by extending to October 9, 2019 the deadline for New York employees to complete sexual harassment training. The DOL guidance also includes model training that can be used to meet the new training requirements.
