Peter J. Weishaar Featured Speaker at Western New York Fire District Officers' Legislative Association Workshop

Jan 12, 2012

Peter J. Weishaar, Esq., was once again one of several featured speakers at the Western New York Fire District Officers’ Legislative Association Fall Workshop, held annually in Batavia New York.

At this year’s workshop, Mr. Weishaar discussed some of the pitfalls of the bidding process, with a particular focus on a recent New York Court of Appeals decision reviewing the criteria used to reject a low bidder.  This topic was also the subject of an article appearing on our website (Can a Municipality Reject a Low Bid?).

Mr. Weishaar also discussed pre-payment options that are sometimes offered to fire districts by apparatus manufacturers.  Although fire districts are generally prohibited from making pre-payments in connection with such purchases, there are some limited circumstances when progress payments may be permissible.

Mr. Weishaar represents fire districts in the Greater Rochester Area. His municipal practice also includes the ongoing representation of planning and zoning boards, as well as the representation of  municipalities as special counsel in litigation matters.
