Fairport, Rochester, Penfield, Greece, NY:  Five local dignitaries gathered in Fairport to celebrate the recent law practice acquisition made by McConville Considine Cooman & Morin, PC (MCCM).

While celebrating their 40^th anniversary providing legal services to the greater Rochester area, MCCM purchased the law practice of retiring Doug Whitney, after his 50 years of legal service. All 14 of the firm’s lawyers and several staff members were joined by dignitaries, Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce members, business partners, office neighbors, and clients at a Ribbon-Cutting ceremony, held along the Erie Canal. Their 100 Packetts Landing office opens to the north to a patio along the Canal.

Fairport Village Mayor Julie Domaratz addressed the attendees, congratulating the firm on their 40th anniversary. She also thanked the firm for their continued and enhanced Fairport presence. Of course, the Mayor took the opportunity to remind everyone of the slogan, “Fairport is open for business,” while the historic 105 year old Lift Bridge, just outside of the firm’s office, is in the up position for repair. All Ribbon Cutting participants found ease of travel and parking in Fairport!

New York State Senator Rich Funke followed the Mayor’s presentation and addressed the value of litigation within our society, and the important contribution that attorneys make in the process of law making and rule revision in a democratic society. He pointed out that over 6,000 regulations were on the books in our state, affecting small business. Rich also maintains his office at Packetts Landing.

New York State Assembly Member Mark Johns spoke of his personal connection to attorney Lou Morin, II.  Early in his professional career, Johns worked under Lucien Morin, II’s father, the first Monroe Country Executive. In the recent years, Johns has maintained connections with Morin, II as they both support Veterans and participate in Fairport’s annual Memorial Day parades and in the services held at Potter Park.

Perinton Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna showed his support for the firm and the Town’s close-working relationship with the Village of Fairport. Hanna made mention of all the recent land development taking place in the greater Fairport-Perinton area and the importance of planning and zoning for the protection and the most effective use of our land.

Fairport-Perinton Chamber vice President Katie Castro talked about the Chamber’s connection with the firm, including two of its lawyers serving on the Board. Presently, attorney Dan Williford serves as Chamber Secretary and Lucien Morin, II served as Chamber Board President in the past. Presently, several of the firm’s lawyers are active members of the Chamber and have opened their Fairport office to member events. Castro pointed out the similarity between the Chamber’s and MCCM’s cultures, “We both like to meet those we serve in comfortable settings. The Chamber has their events hosted at member locations. The firm is open to meeting their clients in socially comfortable settings of the client’s choosing, in board rooms, local diners, and at kitchen tables.”

Dan Williford reviewed the personal Fairport connections of several MCCM attorneys with those gathered. Kevin Cooman is a 1971 Fairport High School graduate and serves as President of Perinton Ecumenical Ministries, Inc. which operates Advent House on Moseley Road, and Sweet Charity Resale Boutique on Whitney Road. Lou Morin was a founding member of the Fairport Dollars for Scholars and still resides in Fairport. Today, he serves as the Commander of a Fairport American Legion post. Michael McConville served for over a decade on the Perinton Youth Hockey Board. Multiple staff members live in Fairport, with several others living on the east side of Rochester. The MCCM team is active within their communities, leading and participating in community-service, charitable, sports, religious, and the arts organizations.

Prior to refreshments being served, Managing Partner Peter Weishaar reflected on the firm’s promise made to retiring Doug Whitney, “To continue to practice at a convenient Fairport location with a commitment to the highest levels of client service.”
