Revised FMLA Regulations and Updated Poster

Mar 12, 2013

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently issued a revised Final Rule regarding the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).  The changes involve military caregiver leave for a veteran, qualifying exigency leave for parental care, and job-protected leave for airline personnel and flight crews.  In addition, employers’ record-keeping requirements are updated to require compliance with the confidentiality requirements of the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act (GINA).

Effective March 8, 2013, all employers must post a new FMLA poster reflecting the revised regulations.  The updated poster can be downloaded from the DOL’s website at http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/posters/fmlaen.pdf.

In light of the revised regulations, employers covered by the FMLA should make sure that the new FMLA poster is posted immediately and that they review their current FMLA policies for compliance with the changes.
